The music throughout the game has been mostly fine with the exception of some annoying cases.
First off, when you've disturbed the enemy and they're looking for you and the alert music is playing, it's extremely repetitive. On top of it being repetitive, there's AN ALARM SOUND IN THE MUSIC! Don't put an alarm sound in the music... FOR A GAME THAT HAS ALARMS THAT BRING MORE ENEMIES. It might not be the same alarm sound that the alarms make, but it makes me think I effed up somewhere. Imagine if musicians thought it was a good idea to put phone ringtones in their music. That's how dumb this is.
Next, when I'm playing and I want to check the map or craft something, I'm given this ambient-like music with an annoying shimmering "wub" sound to it that totally takes me out of the feel of the game. It completely ruins the vibe. Whatever audio or music is playing in the game at the time should just continue to play at a lower volume instead of interrupting the game environment with some offbeat music that fits nowhere with the game.
A music volume slider might be nice but the best course would be to change the battle music and remove the map/menu music.
The game is pretty good, though.
Also, bummer this game isn't 7.1; it works fine in 5.1 and appears to use XAudio2 which is capable of using more than 6-channels. Programmers need to fix up their channel mapping since it's not properly detecting 8-channel configurations.
