Alter of Wishes heroes

After playing some skirmishes, i've noticed that the ai is unable to have and alter of wishes hero that i unlocked. I myself can also choose one for the ai.
Is there a way for the ai to play as one of the unlocked heroes, and i just dont know how to do it? Or are they unplayable by the ai, just the player?
Cause i think its just nicer to play against one of those cool unlocked hereos
