I got thinking about Captain America: The Winter Soldier today, and the fact it is essentially pitched as a political thriller, like Splinter Cell, my question is this in regards to the future of Splinter Cell is this: Will we ever see a lone Splinter Cell (Briggs?) pursue an investigation that possibly implicates 4th Echelon, just carrying a pistol, relying on his wits, trusting no one (not even Sam!) and most importantly out of his "sneaking suit?" and into civilian clothes. The reason I ask this is because I feel it would be a natural evolution from BL (and it would also echo the first version of Conviction, which would be nice call back!) and could possibly work as a spin off, while leaving the main series "untainted" by it's experimentation.
I am a huge fan of the Political Thriller genre (most notably: The Parallax View, Ronin, Three Days of the Condor, Death of a President, Cold Winter (game), MGS series, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and many many more, those listed are just then tip of the iceberg!), and I think it's seriously about time the genre made a proper comeback having been relegated to to the sidelines for far too long, and I would love to see the SC team at the forefront of the genre's return to the public spotlight with this.
Thoughts? Good Idea, bad idea?
