The Blacklist Trailer Introduces Us To James Spader's Raymond 'Red' Reddington
Watch Pain And Gain Online And kudos to J.J. Abrams crew for making Kirk, Spock and the Enterprise relevant again to a whole new crew of kids who gaze longingly at the heavens, wishing they could don a polyester Star Fleet getup (ray gun not included) and kick terra firma to the curb. Theyre bringing new people into the Star Trek universe without pissing off the Baby Boomer crowd who made it popular in the first place. This is no easy feat. But its a testament to quality flicks that just happen to have a huge franchise label attached. This is a mistake many movie makers run into. They think sticking the franchise tag on something guarantees some sort of success. In reality, good movie making works independent of the source idea. Abrams reaffirms this in the Star Trek movies. The flicks are entertaining and engaging in a vacuum; adding the Enterprise crew into the mix essentially just guarantees higher ticket sales.
Watch Spring Breakers Online Now that we know the truth about Iron Man 3's version of The Mandarin, that joke is even more absurd in retrospect. It's nice to see Giamatti at the center of one of Webb's tweets, since most of the film's other big new characters-- Dane DeHaan's Harry Osborn, Jamie Foxx's Electro, even whoever The Office's B.J. Novak is playing-- have been tweeted by Webb already. Who do you want to see revealed next? Or are you sick of Webb flooding us with so much information nearly a year before the movie comes out? Sound off below. Don't have plans with your mom for Mother's Day yet? Go take her to see The Great Gatsby-- you'll have plenty of company. The glossy literary adaptation is exceeding nearly all box office expectations this weekend, making a whopping $19 million between midnight Thursday and Friday showings, and on track for a $53 million opening. As we noted yesterday, that's more than director Baz Luhrmann's last film Australia made during its entire theatrical run in the United States.
Watch Peeples Online But it still won't be enough to beat last weekend's big champion Iron Man 3, which Deadline reports is down 62% from its opening weekend and will make $67 million for the weekend. If you compare it to what The Avengers made in its second weekend that's nothing, of course, but we've known for a while that Iron Man 3 is huge, but not Avengers huge. Meanwhile there's also Peeples, the weekend's other new release that's barely making an impact, netting just $1.1 million on Friday. You don't have to look far to find us discussing both The Great Gatsby and Iron Man 3 all over the place, but we've particularly enjoyed debating DiCaprio's performance in The Great Gatsby and arguing pretty much constantly about whether or not Iron Man 3's treatment of The Mandarin was the right thing to do. You can also read our reviews of Gatsby, Iron Man 3 and even poor, underloved Peeples. Watch Mud Online The esteemed 12-day Cannes Film Festival hasnt even started yet it runs from May 15 until May 26 and while a slew of films will probably get bought up during the festival, deals are already being made almost a week before it opens. And the first one to get snatched up is a no-brainer.
Watch The Big Wedding Online Deadline reports the U.S. rights to Ryan Goslings directorial debut, the fantasy thriller How to Catch a Monster, were acquired by Warner Bros., and Sierra/Affinity will be handling the Bold Films productions overseas rights. Warner Bros. dropped a $3 million minimum guarantee on the film, which will probably earn it back just from a midnight screening, should it go that route. Gosling also wrote How to Catch a Monster, which stars Goslings Drive co-star Christina Hendricks (Mad Men), Saoirse Ronan (Hanna), Matt Smith (Doctor Who), Rob Zabrecky (After the Triumph of Your Birth), and Goslings Place Beyond the Pines co-stars Ben Mendelsohn (The Place Beyond the Pines) and Eva Mendes (The Other Guys) It will also feature an appearance by Detroit cafe owner Larry Mongo.
Watch The Croods Online Robert Mitchum had them in Night of the Hunter. Elwood Blues had them in The Blues Brothers. Now Paul Giamatti is the latest intimidating dude to dabble in knuckle tattoos, as revealed in this first look at him playing The Rhino in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.As with nearly every tidbit we've gotten from the set, this photo comes from director Marc Webb's Twitter feed, with the message "Say hello to Aleksei Sytsevich." That, of course, is the real name of The Rhino, a thug for hire coming from the former Soviet Union who gets involve in an experiment that makes his skin super strong and resilient. Those tattoos on Giamatti look like exactly what you'd expect from a Russian thug-- think Viggo Mortensen in Eastern Promises-- and the barbed wire forehead tattoo is especially intense. Of course, we got a tease about these tattoos not long ago-- back when production had just started, Webb tweeted a photo of a bunch of ring tattoos. We joked at the time that it suggested a connection between Spider-Man and Iron Man 3's The Mandarin, who in the comics fronts a terror organization called the Ten Rings.
Watch Jack The Giant Slayer Online Just remember, I'm not reviewing these movies, but rather predicting where they'll end up on the Tomatometer. Let's take a look at what This Rotten Week has to offer. Star Trek Into Darkness. Space: the final frontier. Reaching out into the great beyond, exploring the heavens, tooling around the infinite abyss. That sh#$s a reality these days people. Consider the 78,000 applicants who put their name in a hat to take a one-way trip to Mars, and die there. One dude even referenced wanting to go because it would make him a true Star Trek officer. Its happening people. And though many of these people are most likely the loony fringe, eighty thousand people wanting to expire literally anywhere else but on Earth, has to owe something to a Star Trek/ sci-fi culture of exploration, discovery and the ever-so-remote chance to bang some intergalactic hottie. Star Trek didnt come up with space travel, but it certainly didnt dissuade anyone (especially the fanboy crew) from wanting to hit the warp drive and blast the off the major drag of a planet were on now.
Fantasy films are a rarity in these days of rampant young adult novel adaptations, but this is hardly a gamble for Warner Bros. The film follows a single mother who is led to a dark underworld after her son stumbles upon a strange road that connects to a secret underwater town. Jon Favreau may have stepped away from the camera on Iron Man 3 and left the directing duties to Shane Black, but it clearly wasn't because he didn't want to work with Iron Man himself. Variety reports that Robert Downey Jr. has joined the ensemble cast of Favreau's Chef, an indie comedy that's being sold at Cannes next week, and is set to start production in Los Angeles in July.
